Campaign for the prevention von gender-based violence and sexual harassment
The u:respect – No room for harassment! campaign focuses on gender-based violence and on sexual harassment in particular. It intends to strengthen the prevention and encourage a sensitive approach to such incidents while also highlighting the support services and the complaints processes available at the University of Vienna.
The campaign is aimed at all employees and students. The campaign materials give those affected of sexual harassment a quick overview of their rights as well as the support services and complaint processes available at the University of Vienna. Another key objective of the campaign is to involve the people around those who are affected, so that these individuals are not left alone in addressing incidents or demanding preventive actions. A range of materials for information, training and raising awareness has been tailored to executives, teaching staff and witnesses to encourage them to act against harassment and prevent it from happening in the first place. The campaign slogan Be attentive. Speak out. Take it seriously. further encourages this culture of shared responsibility.
The conceptual framework of the campaign is based on the 7P model (Combating gender-based violence through: prevalence, prevention, protection, prosecution, provision of services, partnerships and policies) as well as on findings from UniSAFE, a project financed by the EU.
The campaign materials were financed by funds from the Rectorate of the University of Vienna and supported by the Vienna Science and Technology Fund (Wiener Wissenschafts-, Forschungs- und Technologiefonds) as part of the “Awareness Campaign to Prevent Gender-based Violence” project (EI-VRG21-002).
The campaign was developed, planned and realized by the Culture & Equality unit between May 2023 and October 2024, under the project management of Lisa Appiano and Nina Krebs and in cooperation with numerous collaborators. It was launched on November 19, 2024 to coincide with Orange the World - 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
